4 TIPS FOR CREATING A SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN
Whether you are looking for funding from Moto F.A.M. or are setting up a Gofundme for a friend, here are some helpful tips.
1. Only start one campaign
If you are requesting help on behalf of a friend, please make sure that you have the rider’s or their family’s permission to do so. We have gotten multiple requests in the past where friends of a rider have started multiple fundraising campaigns for the same person in a frantic state to help them.
2. Know what you are raising money for
It’s important to know exactly what the rider’s needs are financially before creating a fundraiser and/or requesting help. Raising money on behalf of someone should be a planned effort. The rider’s financial needs should be thought out and responsibly determined. Know exactly what the rider’s needs are. The monetary “goal” amount should be responsibly determined based on their true needs, and not just an amount that sounds good. (Or based on someone lucky numbers… Yes, we have seen this before.)
Moto F.A.M. cannot fund people until we have a full and complete list of injuries. We can not fund riders with “possible” injuries, or “doctors say he/she MIGHT…” We need to have a complete understanding of what their injuries and recovery entails.
3. Don’t use Gofundme instead of insurance
Gofundme and similar fundraising platforms should be used responsibly. Minor/semi-minor accidents can hopefully be taken care of by your, or the other driver’s, insurance. We understand these type of claims take time but we strongly feel that Gofundme and similar fundraising efforts should only be used if they are absolutely necessary. Through the years, Gofundme has gained some negative attention from people misusing this otherwise helpful tool. We do our best not to support this kind of behavior.
4. Provide the What, When, and Why
An effective campaign should include:
1. Detailed accident and injury information.
2. A brief explanation on why there is a fundraising campaign set up for the rider. What are their needs?
3. Photos related to the situations.
Having an informative campaign will help provide people that may not otherwise know the rider a complete understanding of what their needs are. People need to know what, when, and why before they can help.
